Alaska Trip 2008

The subject of this post may make it seem like going to Alaska is annual event. Don't be fooled, you know I've never been. I am so excited. Here is the itinerary I'm thinking of. The times work pretty well and it is the cheapest option.
I'd arrive in Juneau at 2:38 pm on Wednesday, September 3rd then catch the ferry at 4:30 pm and arrive in Skagway at 11:00 pm.
I'd leave Skagway at 7:00 am on Tuesday, September 9th on the ferry and then arrive in Juneau for my flight home that evening.
I could do the exact same thing as far as times go, but leave on Monday instead of Tuesday if that works better with your work schedule. I would love to maximize my time in Alaska and my time with you and it is slightly cheaper leaving on Tuesday, but Monday would work great too. Let me know.

Glacier Point GP

Glaciers are amazing! This is one of our tours we do out side of Skagtown. It was raining so I am fully outfitted in Helly Hansen Gear. Yeah Baby. this trip is amazing. I was with Rachel the dock manager and we were smoozing the ships crew to make sure they sell our tours. This will be an amazing trip for you.

FRIDAY-CRAB NIGHT

Succulent Crab, oh how I wait for every friday to break your shell and boil you for exactly 8 min to perfection. I then carefully break your little arms and dip your perfectly formed white meat into a delectable sauce of butter and garlic. Then all the tantalizing fun begins as I slowly apply the juicy goodness in my mouth as I savor every tasty drop. This is how I eat Crab!

Every friday a crab boat comes into Skagway's small boat harbor and sells crab to all the locals for $6 a crab. So worth every penny. Last friday I ran into him on the dock by accident and magic happened as I bought 12 crabs for everyone. It was fantastic so I hope you enjoy the pics.

Zion National Park

First things first. Brent, two posts is not very impressive. Not that they weren't great. They were, and that is why you should work real hard for a third and fourth soon. Now, I must share my weekend with you. I will use a picture slideshow and hopefully not get too carried away with the pictures.

Some people got there on Friday morning. Myself and another friend arrived Friday evening. We camped at Mosquito Cove right by the Virgin River and made chicken and corn on the cob. Just so you know. I purchased that cooler I'm sitting on and it also comes with a smaller cooler and thermos. I'm ready to go for all car camping excursions in the future. I also got my own hatchet.

After dinner we started the fire, which certainly was not necessary given the warm temperature. Then we had the spider incident (check facebook for photos) and I had the pleasure of talking to you. I created the greatest smore ever by getting rid of the graham crackers, and replacing them with each half of the Hershey bar and two marshmallows inside. Delicious.

Angel's Landing was awesome. We had a couple people with us here were really afraid of heights and exposure and turns out the last part of the trail is really high with shear cliffs on both sides and you just scramble up. The weather was perfect, the company was perfect, and the end view was incredible. (Have you done that hike?)

Of course, along the way we had to do as many jumping shots as possible. We got some great ones. I deleted the two best ones and couldn't get them back so I gave up. We also did some handstands a couple feet away from a 1300 foot drop. People didn't think we were very smart.

We made a couple of other stops along the way. I climbed out on this tree and really wanted to jump into the Virgin River but decided a 20 foot drop into 4 feet of water wasn't a good idea. We walked from the bottom of The Narrows up for about a mile and then turned back because one friend had stayed behind with a killer headache.

After returning to camp fixed a delicious dinner of hot dogs and sat around the fire. Melissa and I enjoyed our matching tops. Thank you Patagonia President's Day sale. (Have you utilized your new coat yet? Love that coat.) I chopped all that little wood with my hatchet, built the tepee and started a fantastic fire with the paper from a Patagonia catalogue. The best part of the night...no spiders with babies on their backs. Also, we made smores with Reese's. It was a great trip. I went and visited my friends in St. George on Sunday and then drove back. Can't wait for the next adventure!!!
